Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 August 2026 · Developer: Auto-Reader · Contact: [email protected]
Auto-Reader (the “App”) is built privacy-first and runs on your
device. The books, comics, magazines, and documents you open stay on your device — we never
upload them to any server, and there is no account to sign in to. This policy applies to Auto-Reader on iPhone,
iPad, and Android, and explains the few features that reach the internet, exactly what each one sends, and what
we never collect.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not upload or store the files, pages, or text you read, and we never receive them
ourselves; the only transmissions are the optional look-ups you trigger yourself, listed
under “Internet use” below.
- We do not require an account, name, email, or sign-in to read.
- No analytics, no usage tracking, and no advertising — the App contains no third-party analytics,
attribution, or advertising software.
- No crash-reporting service: we do not receive crash reports or device diagnostics.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not build a profile of you.
Information processed on your device
- Your library & reading progress (positions, bookmarks, notes, and reading
statistics) are stored only in the App's local storage so you can resume where you left off.
- File access: the App reads the files you explicitly open or share to it. It does not
scan your device.
- Text recognition (OCR), translation, the built-in offline dictionary, the neural voices, and on-device AI
(Explain / Summarize / Ask-AI) all run locally on your device; the text they process does
not leave it.
Internet use
These features only send data when you choose to use them, and only the small piece of information each one
needs. None of them requires an account.
- Optional online dictionary: when you look up a word, the App sends that single word to a
public dictionary service to fetch its definition.
- Book & comic information: when you open a book's or comic's details page, its title is
sent to public catalogue services (Open Library and MyAnimeList) to fetch cover art and public information
such as the author, description, and year. Only the title is sent.
- Optional AI model downloads: if you turn on the neural voice, on-device translation, or
manga features, the App downloads the required models once from a public model host, then uses them offline.
These downloads request files only; they contain none of your content or personal information.
- “Translate” and “Search” shortcuts: if you select text and tap
Translate or Search, the App opens your browser to Google Translate or Google Search with the text you
selected in the web address. This hands that selected text to Google through your browser, under Google's own
privacy policy. It is optional and separate from the App's on-device translation above.
Advertising
Auto-Reader shows no ads and uses no advertising identifier. If advertising
is introduced in a future version, this Privacy Policy — and, on Android, the Google Play “Data
safety” information — will be updated to describe it and any provider involved, and, where required (e.g.
EEA/UK), you will be asked for consent first.
Purchases
Auto-Reader's core features are free. Where an optional paid upgrade is offered, the purchase is handled
entirely by the platform's own store, and we never see or store your payment details:
- On Android, the optional “extra themes & premium features” subscription is
processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the transaction; we only store whether your
device holds the entitlement — the App stores that entitlement flag on your device only.
- On iPhone and iPad, Auto-Reader offers an optional auto-renewable Premium
subscription (a monthly or a yearly plan), processed by Apple's In-App Purchase
system. Apple handles the entire transaction; we never see or store your name, payment card, or Apple ID.
The only thing the App keeps is a single on-device flag recording whether your device currently holds the
Premium entitlement — that flag stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. Subscriptions are
managed and cancelled in your device's Account Settings; see the Terms of Use for
the auto-renewal terms.
Diagnostic log
The App keeps a small technical log on your device to help diagnose problems. It records only counts, timings,
and internal identifiers — never the text of your books, book titles, or file names. This log stays on your
device and is never transmitted to us. On iPhone and iPad the App makes its documents folder available in the
Files app, so you may see this log there; you can delete it at any time with no effect on your library.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and
because the App has no account system and collects no personal data, there is no personal information for us to
hold about any user, regardless of age.
Your choices
- Use the App fully offline (airplane mode) to avoid any network use.
- Clear the App's data or uninstall it to remove your library and reading progress from the device.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
